His father, Sri Prabir Kumar Chatterjee, from whom he started learning the Sitar. He was a disciple of Pt. Aparesh Chatterjee.

With his mother Smt. Rama Chatterjee. She was a regular artiste at All India Radio and initiated him into music.

His Guruji, maestro Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, with whom he had a long association until his death.

With his Guru (Baba) Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, with whom he had a long association of ten years and who took him under his tutelage after the death of his earlier guru Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.
